Helio Castroneves has won the Indianapolis 500 four times. That ties him for most wins with A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears. This year, he is trying to become the all-time leading winner driving his No. 6 Honda racecar for the Meyer Shank Racing team. The 106th Running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 29, 2022.
He's off to a shaky start, crashing his prized racecar during a practice lap. The Meyer Shank Racing team has had to put the racecar back together. Castroneves thinks they have done a terrific job, saying "It’s perfect. The guys did an amazing job building up the car. It’s just perfect.”
Born in Brazil, Castroneves now lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is married to Adriana Henao and they have a daughter, Mikaella, born in 2009.
